I’m excited to see Venom in combat! Make it happen, Pete!
It’ll happen-eventually. Problem is, Steam Knights are so strong, at this stage of the story they’re a bit too strong to throw into a fight too early on. Venom is even stronger than Volk-and he beat up several hundred devils back in ch2. The Gnolls are also very powerful but…well, I decided the conflict might be more interesting if Venom wasn’t involved until she’s really needed. Luckily she’s rather impulsive, so coming up with a reason why she would be delayed was quite easy 🙂 Other ideas were for her to fall through the bottom of the ship due to the weight of her armour or just to get stuck in the doorway. I decided this way worked best as it fleshed out her character a bit more. So often female characters are the sensible ones that don’t make any mistakes. With Venom I wanted a super strong, super confident and slightly crazy woman-very brave and powerful enough that recklessness doesn’t usually matter, but still a bit unpredictable-likely to do what’s more fun rather than what’s the most efficient way of tackling a problem. She also tends to leap into things head first without thinking ahead-quite literally in this case 😉
