New page! Tiger and her cronies plus the savanna gnoll tribe are headin’ off to the moot-But not before a bit of bonding. It’s always a good idea to be respectful of the culture of another group you’re working with. I often think that was one of the reasons for the fall of the Romans. Going from a largely permissive polytheistic state that would adopt and even honour new gods to a monotheistic organization that energetically tried to crush non Christian religions. There were other factors too of course, but that didn’t help.
Likewise with the British Empire. The vast subcontinent of India with a population of about three hundred million could be controlled by a couple of thousand bureaucrats and sixty thousand soldiers (two thirds of whom were native Indians). All ran relatively smoothly until the native Muslims and Hindus felt like their culture was being disrespected. The attempted dissolution of the caste system, the outlawing of sati (the burning of widows on the funeral pyres of their dead husbands) by the British as well as the outlawing of the infanticide of female babies had put a strain on the relationship but things came to a head with the increased activities of Christian preachers attempting to convert the Indian people as well as a rumour about the use of pig and beef tallow in the cartridges of a new rifle being issued to the Indian troops. These outrages (real and phantom) lead to disaster.
Anyway-In short-Respect the cultures of others and you’ll have a much easier time dealing with them. Harshness and oppression will only make things difficult for everyone involved. Will this respectful attitude of the mountain gnoll last? Time will tell.
