New page-And the full reveal of the dangerous and cunning wizards of Thuune! This nation will allow any race into it’s ranks but they respect the magical arts above all things. Some Thuunians believe that those weak in magic or lacking in it entirely are inferiors worthy only of conquest and enslavement. Others (a minority) believe it is the duty of wizards to futher the art of magic for the good of all sapient beings. Even these wizards often place the value of themselves and their fellows (and even their experiments) above the lives of non-magic users. Thuune is a paradise for those talented in the arcane arts, but is best avoided by anyone else.

Yes-He’s the property of the lady in pink (Agonia) who’s also from the land of the Slaver Princes. She specialises in charms and enchantment magic so she’s all about using magic to control other creatures.
Wow these bozos sound like real pieces of work. Of course arrogant mages are always FAR too reliant on their magic in order to be a threat. Well I’ve got two words for idiots like that: Anti-magic field. See how well they handle someone who can just say “screw your magic” and pummel them while they’re defenseless. Doesn’t look like any of them are smart enough to figure out how to get some pretty good 0% arcane failure armor either.
Yup-All magic has weaknesses, just as no magic at all does. Best to strike a balance 🙂 This group does have some ensurance in the form of a 9ft tall Str32 (with gloves of giant strength) minotaur fighter-monk 😉
That is true but if you want a way to REALLY demoralize a group like this look for a “shock dragoon” barbarian to throw into that antimagic field with them, and watch their bull boy toy go down like a sack of potatoes. Seriously that build can be completed by level six (if you dip fighter at six). Lion totem barbarian trades fast movement for full attacks after movement, power attack is obvious AND is doubled on a two-handed weapon, shocktrooper moves power attack drops to AC, and finally leap attack allows you to quadruple your power attack bonus if you clear 10 feet in a single jump first (AFTER the two handed double bonus). All doubled by using a spear or similar. Of course you could just skip the antimagic field and throw a Bear Warrior barbarian with those feats at them. Instead of x8 power attack you pick up improved unarmed strike to get a full attack (with power attack bonus) followed by two claws and a bite. Oh, and you can get in at level seven and the first bear form you get is equal to a 20th level barbarian’s rage bonuses. Guess Conan was right, barbarians are the natural predator of puffed up overconfident spellcasters.
Ack, slight mistake- spears don’t double total damage if used in a charge, but against a charge so use a greatsword or greataxe instead. Still nasty damage: 5 from 20 str when raging, 2 from two handed str bonus, 6 from power attack X2 for two handed=12, then times 4 for leap attack, and 6 from average greatsword damage all totals to 61 damage on the first strike, and while the PA bonus drops on the follow up from pounce the multipliers remain for a 21 damage follow up. At level six.

I should draw some people’s characters in the background when our heroes get to a more populous area. It’d be cool to stick the characters of some of my most loyal readers in the comic as extras 🙂

That might happen as long as I had the permission of the owner of the character to use them 😉 They would still own the character of course, but I’d need to have their permission to use them in the comic so that I wouldn’t run into any legal trouble over it later (not that I expect BTB to ever be successful enough for that sort of thing to happen, but it’s best to be safe). Link to your fursona so I can bear them in mind for future events 🙂
I know I am going to get flak for this, but I just want to say, it feels like reading this is starting to get a little…. exhausting.
Now I admit, I didn’t find this comic when it started, so I had quite a backlog to get through when I first found it so that was just rapid-fire pages for the fight scenes. I don’t recall which I caught up, but I do recall it was before they reached this town (I think during the amusement part segment with the Gnoll group). But it feels like ever since that first religious group appeared in this town the comic has come to a screeching halt.
The first group appears, they love to talk, blab on and on about how powerful they are, how little chance anyone stands against them, and how they are in the right by divinity while being hypocritical about it (a joke that was used repeatedly and IMO stopped being funny because not only was it run into the ground, but the fight kept getting interrupted so they could repeat it). They boast about how powerful they are, seem unbeatable at first, but eventually the main group defeats them through mostly silly antics.
Ok, fine, was just glad that drawn-out fight was finally over…. but now before the group can even leave the town, a second group appears wanting a fight. Even the characters commented about how it’s too soon inthe comic for another fight, and in the same town no less.
And before THAT group can even really do anything…. a THIRD group appears…… pulling the same “We are right because divinity, also look how powerful we are” who look like they are also going to love to talk repeatedly about how awesome and powerful and right by divinity they are.
Again, my views might be skewed because the majority of the fights I read when they were already finished as I was going through this comic’s backlog so I was able to read them in one shot, but none of them felt as slow-paced or a repetitive slog as that last one. I liked all the other fight scenes in this comic, that last one was the only one I disliked, because it felt like it was going nowhere and took forever for anything to happen while the antagonists kept repeating how awesome they are and the same hypocritical joke. I was really glad it was over… and now it seems like it’s about to repeat before anything can even happen after that last fight.
Don’t panick, Tendo Two. I totally agree with you. If this was actually going to be a fight right now that’d be really bad. Have faith. It’ll all be okay 😀
I’m curious, has there been any Trans or intersex characters yet? It feels like there must have been and I’ve missed it. From double donged lizards to Minotaur and Mindflayers. Surely at least one of the Hyena gals was packing with their natural adaptaions and I missed it? I cant remember but was the Samurai that has the god stone a cross dresser or FTM?
I don’t think there have been. No-Vaznev is definitely biologically female. Not that I have any problems with that sort of character-It just hasn’t really been an issue so far 🙂 If I do include a character like that I’d probably not make a big deal out of it. Inclusion works best (in my opinion) when you don’t make a fuss. He or she would just be another character 🙂
I didn’t think you would make a fuss. When you started introducing genital depictions I kept expecting to just see it pop up one day and none of the characters mention it. That’s why I was curious if there had a trans character and I just didn’t notice. I just figured after all these years and dozens of overly sexual characters thered be someone. I was honestly starting to worry there was an aversion, glad to hear there’s not.
Also sorry a not to be rude, but I didn’t question Vaznev’s (I knew it started with a V but she left years ago) biological sex but her social gender, I think you meant she is Cis female. I remember she had breast wraps but I couldn’t remember if they were for fighting or a gender preference thing.
Ah, I see. Hmm-I’d say she’s not really that bothered about her gender identity. She has had relationships with both men and women, though she tends to favour women. She doesn’t really dress as a man or as a woman-She just wears what’s comfortable and practical for her to wear in what she does (bounty hunting and fighting). I’m far from an expert on the subject, but I try to keep an open mind and learn more as I go along. I should probably learn a fair bit more before I include a character like that-Though when I do their gender identity will probably be pretty irrelevent to the plot. They will just be there, doing their thing along with everyone else 🙂 .
I suppose it might come up as a lot of my characters tend to lose their clothes due to battle damage and the like. If it were to happen to such a character I like to think they’d be unconcerned (other than being annoyed or embarrassed about being naked) as their physical body would be of no consequence as far as that part of their identy was concerned. Perhaps something along the lines of ‘Oh-I thought you were a woman’ ‘I am a woman’ ‘Oh right, fair enough’. Would that be okay? I don’t know if that sort of thing would matter more in such a case. I suppose it would depend on the attitude of the character in question just like anyone else. Some people are really embarrassed by that sort of thing, others don’t really care (or even revel in it) 🙂
I don’t think any of my characters would have an issue with such a character. Maybe a little curiosity in some cases (Rath has had a sheltered life and is unaware of many things). It won’t ever be a major story beat (this comic’s more about adventure and stupid stuff happening to people).
I certainly don’t want anyone to feel like they can’t read this comic and enjoy it. That’s one of the reasons I tend to draw a lot of my male characters in skimpy costumes as well as the ladies. Part of it is that it’s fun, but also I want to create a sexy comic but also a comic that anybody is welcome to enjoy regardless of gender or sexual orientation or race. To make the comic welcoming to everyone I could either remove the female nudity or include male nudity too. I decided the latter would be much more fun 🙂 I try to include something for everyone. Men and women can be hot and fun to look at and all genders can be physically attractive but can also have thoughts and make jokes and be an important part of the story beyond being eye candy.
That’s what I aim for anyway. I’m not sure how successful I am, but I’ll keep trying my best. Ultimately I just want to give people a fun, sexy, silly adventure story 🙂
Anyway, no characters like that yet, but I have no problems at all with including them. I’ll have to give it some thought next time I introduce any new characters of import 🙂 I should look more at art created with that audience in mind too-Particularly erotic art. That way I can figure out what’s okay or desirable in that sort of art and what sort of things I should avoid. Being sexy is not mandatory in this comic but it’s a nice bonus 😉

A lot of these issues are very new to me and I’m a bit of a dinosaur, but I’m trying to learn 🙂 I don’t really care about getting the biggest audience in the wolrd with this comic (it’s pretty niche) but I definitely don’t want anyone to feel like they aren’t welcome here 🙂
I think part of the thing here would be that would be more likely with members of the general populace, perhaps a tavern owner or such. With adventurers, especially high level adventurers who tend to be rich, they would probably have purchased a potion of gender switch or something similar. I mean if I could make that change and be happier for it via method far superior to any transition surgeries that exist in the real world it would certainly be something I’d look into. Heck it might even be the reason they started adventuring, to afford it, which could make for a decent character background story too.
As for there having been no characters like that, I disagree. That villager Rath hit with the Sexy Beam Cannon and turned into a woman seemed overjoyed with the circumstances now that she could follow her dream of being a sultry songstress. So I’d say he was but just didn’t have the means to do anything about it.
Oh yes-I’d forgotten about her 🙂 She’s now one of the bards (still planning on trying to make it as a singer).
That’s right! I felt like gender roles/changing happened at some point! It was the red head beared guy( now girl ) wasn’t it? That is literally FtM representation right there. And no worries Peter nothing you said came off as rude. I was afraid of sounding rude trying address gender terminology. It’s always tricky. As far as including someone that’s not magically trans I’d follow what’s worked in the past and stick with the “this happens in nature” like the aforementioned doublely gifted Lizard(dragon? I cant remember) folk and have a Hyena hermaphrodite. A certain species of Hyenas has females that can grow much bigger than the males and will grow a pseudo penis (a really big clitoris that is usually as big or bigger than a males penis). I can’t remember if its only the dominant ones in the pack that do this or all females do.

Unfortunately I don’t have any games running, nor will I for quite a while due to circumstances. However I am not so cruel as to leave my players floundering. I’ll help them out with making their character ideas tough enough to handle what I throw at them… most of the time. Some of the books I have list adventure seeds and full adventures based on horror movie logic after all, and it isn’t any fun if they get TOO cocky.
