Kazuma should take notes, because THIS is what peak rogue should look like. When you can pilfer an enemy’s very stats you are ten times more dangerous than ANY form of direct damage dealing. That’s why the most terrifying spellcasters aren’t the over the top blaster types, its the guys who can literally debuff you to death (or helplessness). Seriously, ray of exhaustion comboed with waves of exhaustion leaves low strength builds literally pinned down by the weight of their clothes, and they target fortitude saves which tend to be weakest on those classes. And ray of stupidity can leave the party beatstick a braindead lump while targeting their weak will save. Being able to pull off stuff like that WITHOUT magic while practically untouchable from insane stealth skills? Yeah, the halfling CEO just became the single scariest character in this comic from a combat standpoint. I’d legitimately rather face any other villain in this comic in one of my games than a guy who can literally steal me into a coma by pilfering my mental stats, or paralysis by taking my DEX or STR stats, or worse my CON stat. Because that’s the only thing I’m not sure how to completely no-sell with the right equipment. Hell, Mortuba herself as a necromancer is completely shut down by what I’d consider BASE equipment for a high level character.
It is indeed a powerful ability. I did kind of consider not having him be able to do this as it might make problems down the line (it’s one of those powers that seems like it might be able to solve any situation). Eh-That’s a problem for future me to deal with XD Daddlewater may seem soft but he was quite the adventurer back in the day and still has those skills to fall back on 🙂 He’s very difficult to pin down and do any damage to due to his speed and many evasive tricks and he can cause a lot of chaos with his stealing abilities (the ultimate burglar type!). His sneak attack is also not too shabby and he likes to use a variety of non-lethal poisons that are nevertheless highly effective in defeating much stronger opponents.
Maybe not quite a ‘Warlord of the Sea’ level opponent to use ‘One Piece’ as a barometer, but he’s getting close in terms of threat level.
