Huh. Why is Venom calling Freya “Lady Freya”? Isn’t Freya Venom’s page?
She’s still a lady though-being a qualified steam knight. Although Venom outranks Freya within the order they are both Knights (referred to as ladies as they are female) 🙂
Cute and sexy make for the best awkward moments.
The typical answer is “game balance”, but the flintlocks in the DMG are comparable to crossbows (which are simple), just with more damage on crits and they take longer to reload for most. Pretty much the only RPG I know of that makes guns easier to use than bows is GURPS, other games where players are equally likely to use guns or bows like Ironclaw tend to make them just as easy to use but actually does make an effort at game balance by giving guns massive damage but obscene (albeit realistic) reload times and a chance at failing to light.
I home brewed some gun rules for 3.5 with similar goals-massive damage and some armour penetrating ability but very long reload time-making them good as a once per encounter weapon but not so great to rely on as the only way of attacking-unless you were fine with spending most of the fight reloading 🙂
Only D’n’D world that I remember where black powder weapons existed in the setting was Ravenloft. Had a game where my Bard became fascinated by them, learn’t their use and had a lot of fun with them. Mind you this was the same character that went fishing for a Kraken at lvl 2.
Sounds like fun 🙂 How successful was the fishing trip? Did he/she live to level 3? 😉
Managed to get it onto the beach but it got away. She lived as well and was Lvl 6 when that particular game ended.
Ah well-it’s a good story, and that’s even better than an actual fish to a bard 🙂 Lv6 isn’t too shabby. Most of our games don’t get much higher than lv 14 at the most(usually a fair bit lower). The lower levels are more interesting to play through in some ways.
Believe me when I say that I am NOT complaining, but have you noticed that all of your characters are in ideal physical form? Yes, i know that certain individuals who are designed to look like a barrel with legs dont meet that label, but DAMN you have muscular and hottie guys and girls left and right!
Yes-it’s been said before. The main characters tend to be adventurers-so I base their physiques on athletes rather than models (as with some fantasy) or on the forms more prevalent in a sedentary society. They spend most of their time marching, climbing, running and fighting (or training to fight) so they should be pretty impressive physically. I don’t consider this a law-just the way I see things 🙂
