Whoops, I completely forgot about your response to my concerns about Defeat by Modesty a few pages back. Regarding:
“Well-You should really be using these techniques instead of violence-So if you wouldn’t be behaving the way most adventurers or heroes do towards an opponent(in other words-killing them) towards that person then you probably shouldn’t be using defeat by modesty or capture techniques on them.”
Well, the same is true for the Uchiha, i.e. they shouldn’t kill their brethren either. I guess the important difference is that for them the power-up is more black&white, i.e. you either get the Sharingan upgrade or you don’t, so Rath can just turn a bunch of enemies into cards instead of one loved one, while an Uchiha has to kill someone s/he loves a lot (or have a similarly dramatic realization, like how Sasuke got his upgrade after learning about Itachi’s true motive).
If Rath had to start turning his friends into cards then that’d play nicely into fueling that Despair Beam he used to have, but since that’s now a Sexy Beam that’s out of the question.
Ah right-Well, Rath’s despair based form still exists-It’s just that his lust fueled form (which is very fast but not as strong or resilient as his despair form) is much easier to access. The irony being that although Calicos has manipulated events to turn Rath into a potentual pawn of despair and hatred, the power of sexy ladies is far stronger on Rath (at least most of the time) and so his abilities have developed in that direction instead 🙂
I see. I totally thought that his beam changed by replacing despair with sexiness, but good to know that you’re still keeping the other form up your sleeve just in case.
Also I love it when an enemy’s plan fails for some stupid reason like horniness. XD
So, if he keeps developing his lust fueled form, does that mean he’ll eventually overtake the power of his despair fueled form, making it obsolete, or does the latter profit from his growth? Currently I can’t picture any scenario in which he’d turn into his despair form anymore, because anything that would make anyone despair no longer matches with the comic’s tone.
It’s taken me a long time to get myself registered; the site doesn’t seem to like my email address. I was compelled to fight through the process, though, to start commenting.
I really do not like the direction the comic is taking. The ‘accelerated seduction’ thing was obviously questionable among the readers, but it wasn’t that bad to me. The magical impregnation and then trapping the person in a card; that just seems cruel. Then we come back to the party and the whole female cast is getting gang-raped by vines; one of them is being magically milked. The comic is getting very fetishy and rapey and it is unpleasant.
I have to tell you; you’re not good at the sexy stuff. I’ve never found your designs attractive, everyone just seems to have rock hard bodies & no body fat with secondary sexual characteristics stapled on. These giant clits you are starting to add are also difficult to look at, for me. Now even the sex acts are becoming creepy and the comic has no value as porn or whatever.
That said, I’ve been with the comic since about page 80 and I love your writing. I love this story, the characters, the jokes. ‘I heard someone come this way’ is one of the funniest things I have ever read. I love it. Even though it’s been almost ten years and the party hasn’t made it to the second village, I still check every day for the updates. I want the story!
Please consider adding some body fat to your characters and giving them some clothing that isn’t skin-tight, sometimes. The ‘strip your opponent to embarrass them’ bit is fine, but you do a lot of it. The fight with the druid versus the gnolls was amazing, I want to see more of that. I want to see more of the character sheets and leveling up. I want to see the story progress without stopping for fifty pages of stripping and fucking. Please try to get the party to the next village before the ten-year anniversary in October and please show us more of what you can do as a writer, because you’re a great one.

I do often agonise over the sexy or erotic elemts of the comic and I was worrying that I’ve maybe been doing too much of that or been pushing things into too kinky a direction. Sex is certainly a very tricky subject.
They say ‘Sex sells’ but it’s a lot more complicated than that. Everyone has different ideas about what they like and about the level of erotic content they want to see (from none all the way up to wall to wall hardcore). I’ve always striven to make the sort of comic I’d want to read, so the inclusion of erotic elements has always been very much on the table (at least with this project-If I started again I might make something more family friendly-If for no other reason than the constant battle you have as an adult material content creator as far as advertising and hosting and what have you is concerned. The web has become more corporate in the last decade and big corporations do not like entertainment that is not as broad as possible. And that doesn’t even take reader reaction into account. Many readers will not give you a chance if your work is erotic in nature).
This has always been a comic inspired by the likes of Go Nagai, Crumb and even Rowlandson (the political cartoonist of the early 1800s) so in contrast to most mainstream stuff, more graphic sex and nudity is included. The nature of that nudity tends to be down to scenarios that I find exciting-Though the input from the readership also has an effect. That said, I do mean for the comic to be a mixture of action, comedy and erotica. It’s not meant to be pure porn because to me that’s not very interesting. The erotic elements are far more exciting if the characters have a real story to them. So-Please look on the sex as just part of the story.
Thank you very much for the feedback. Although I tend to do my own thing for the most part (which I feel is one of the great strengths of the web comic vs more mainstream media that is forced to supress artistic exression for fear of upsetting the sponsors) I am guided by the comments of the readers. While most people have been very positive about the increase in erotic content, it’s good to hear an alternate viewpoint to help balance things out a bit.
Do not despair. I still have lots of story ahead of the group and real confrontations and villains to face-And I do try to pack some narrative and world building even into the erotic pages (for instance Alice’s dialogue in the first panel of this page is quite important).

normally I’m totally down for sex however i do agree on one thing they said some story would be appreciated soon it is starting to feel a tad Filler’y
Yeah-I do want to avoid that. Hence why I decided to cut Rath’s training off with just the bandit clan (I had ideas for the other clans but I thought it’d be best to push things forward and show that stuff in a quick flashback montage of a few panels rather than pages). I have had other people asking for more sex and suggesting more scenarios they want to see though. For instance one reader wanted a protracted scene with Rath and the Tanuki god. That might have been fun, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing-Balance is key 🙂 I was actually already stearing things back towards more narrative and action based pages-It just takes a while to show (like stearing a very large ship-You turn the wheel but the ship takes a while to respond).
It is perhaps worth remembering that the battle between Meg and the mountain gnolls back in the day which was cited as an example of what I should be doing was at the time heavily criticised by many as dragging on for too long (‘will this battle ever end?!’ and ‘get back to the main cast!’). What we can glean from this, I feel is as a creator be prepared to listen to your readership but ultimately you’ve got to go with your gut and keep going as best you can.
Web comics are harder than many other media in that you only tend to release one page at a time. As a result unless you really compress the pacing (to the point where it seems rushed later on when lots of pages are available to read in one go) things can seem very slow. Comic pages take a long time to make (even the pros miss deadlines and they tend to have whole teams working on western comics and manga) and I think any story might seem slow paced if you just got one new page or 45 seconds of footage per week.
Nevertheless-Thanks for the feedback. I do listen and I do take these things on board and these comments definitely help in terms of stopping me from going into a creative rut-They spark the old brain awake and force me to think harder about what I’m doing 🙂

No problem! I’ve had almost exclusively feedback in favour of more sexy content up until this page, but it’s good to hear the other side of the argument to help balance things out 😀
